About

My name is Johanna and I’m the County Historian in Orange County, N.Y. In the past, I’ve done lots of public history work related to the Revolutionary War period. While in college, I worked as a tour guide at Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh and was a summer intern in the joiner shop at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. More recently I’ve served in advisory roles such as for planning the Washington-Rochambeau Trail, advocated for the protection of the Fishkill Supply Depot, and currently serve as a member of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area advisory committee, which funded the creation of the 'American Revolution in the Hudson Valley' guide and has supported the revitalization of the Henry Knox Cannon Trail. I was also the lead archaeologist during the excavation of property surrounding the historic Weigand’s Tavern in Newburgh, N.Y.
In 2019 I facilitated the creation of the Orange County (NY) Semiquincentennial Commission and currently serve as chair. I'm also an advisor to the New York State Historian's Field Guide Committee, co-chair of the Hudson Valley 250 Working Group, and a member of the Hudson River Valley Lafayette Farewell Tour Bicentennial Committee.
